- A Substance Use Issues DVD
- By Youth for Youth
- Sponsored by Health Canada, Drug Strategy Community Initiatives Fund*
The Lights On 2 Project addresses the need for education of youth about substance abuse issues. A group of youth from Rossbrook House helped write and then act in a film called Wake Up. It portrays drinking and drug use by youth from their perspective and is intended for a youth audience. There is also a special feature section that contains animated scenes of drug facts, for awareness and discussion.
The process of being involved in the project increased participants’ sense of belonging, skill levels and confidence. Building self-esteem along with increased knowledge of substance use consequences offers viable prevention to future at-risk behaviors.
An Evaluation Supplement for the project is available for downloading. It focuses on the impact the project had on participants as well as the lessons learned. It may also serve as a facilitation guide to promote discussion after viewing the DVD.
